Hey! My name is Catherine L. Evans but you can call me Cat. I’m not really good at writing about myself so bear with me. I decided to name my Reiki practice “Healing Panther” because #1) I’m a healer and #2) The panther is my spirit animal. When I was young, I always knew I was different. I never seemed to fit in so I always found myself existing in the intersections of life – in constant search of finding myself and my purpose.
I didn’t grow up religious or spiritual and to be honest, for a moment there, I just thought we were born to just live, die and become worm food. I didn’t believe in a Higher Power for the majority of my childhood. It wasn’t until I was in middle school that I started believing that maybe there was something out here – I just didn’t know what yet. I was the type to need tangible evidence that I could see in order to believe something existed, which is kind of silly to me now that I think about it because air clearly exists and can’t be seen.
When I was 19, I learned how to feel energy between my hands. It felt tingly and then there was this push and pull sensation. It completely blew my mind. It was the first time I was exposed to something tangible that I couldn’t see with my own two eyes. I mean I knew in theory that people were made of energy and whatnot but to FEEL it was another story. I was so excited that I told my mentor “I can’t WAIT to play with energy!” And that’s when she stopped me and said “Energy isn’t anything to PLAY with.” I knew she was serious so I started to research ways to use my energy for good – ways that I could use energy responsibly. And that’s when I came across Reiki.
The first time I had a Reiki session was in 2010 at Cooper-Young fest in Memphis, TN. I didn’t know what to expect and I was a nervous wreck. I kept interrupting the practitioner, asking questions about what she felt from my energy. She assured me that everything was ok but that she felt there were some issues that I needed to work on within myself. After the session, I literally felt like I was looking at the world with different eyes. That session was a pivotal moment in my life. It set me on my spiritual journey. I went from believing nothing, to believing something to believing in a Higher Power. (I call them the Powers That Be) It made me want to work through my issues and become a better me. It led me to my purpose – healing.
I became a Reiki practitioner in 2011, a Reiki Master/Teacher in 2012 and have been practicing Reiki ever since. My hope is to educate as many people about the benefits of Reiki and change their lives like Reiki changed mine.
